About

Raymond Quek is an architect, architectural historian and architectural educator. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK and the RSA. He is Professor of Architecture and Deputy Head of School at Bond University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. He was recently Head of Architecture at Nottingham Trent University, and previously Director of Architectural Studies at University of Nottingham. He has also worked in Universities in Liverpool, Manchester, Singapore and Wellington, New Zealand. He received his professional architectural degree at Liverpool University where he won the Charles Reilly Medal. He won a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Award to pursue postgraduate work at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, in the History and Philosophy of Architecture. His academic research explores Architectural Representation in the History of Ideas as a problem of knowledge, the meeting of East and West circa 14 – 18c, and problematic dissemination of leading paradigms particularly in art & architecture. He is editor of the volume 'Nationalism & Architecture' due for release in July 2012 (Ashgate). He is the author of the forthcoming book, 'Fiction • Image • Tone: Metropolis & Architecture Witnessed' (Routledge, 2012) and is working on disegno, emblemata, stampe - a project on the rise of visual knowledge in architecture.  A book manuscript titled 'Architecture Re-inscribed: Encountering Modern Architecture - Singapore 1923 – 1975', is in progress.
